Alicea works as a behavior technician in a small animal and exotic practice in Franklin, Indiana, where she has been teaching puppy classes, clicker training classes, behavior modification and cooperative behavior for more than twelve years; working with both dogs and cats. Alicea is a leader in veterinary technology, consulting veterinary hospitals on adding behavior wellness and intervention to general veterinary practices, including ways to decrease stress in patients.
Alicea is a nationally recognized speaker, providing lectures and hands-on labs for veterinarians and veterinary technicians at state, regional, and national veterinary conferences. She has written many articles for veterinary publications and is published in the North American Veterinary Clinic journal “Veterinary Technicians and Exotic Animal Training.” She authored the Behavior Review chapter in Mosby’s Review for Veterinary Technicians and is currently working on a book for Wiley publishing entitled Low Stress Veterinary Procedures: Guide to Training Cooperative Behavior.
Alicea is a past president of the Society of Veterinary Behavior Technicians and is the current president-elect of the Academy of Veterinary Behavior Technicians. In her free time, Alicea loves hiking, camping and traveling with her husband Mark and their Jack Russell terrier “Piper” and two retired rescue greyhounds, “Moeselle” and “Honu.”
